About Alex

Hi, I’m Alex! I’m an NYC-based therapist and the owner of Seachange Psychotherapy. I believe that every person has the innate capacity for growth and personal evolution and I’m so happy you’re here to begin exploring this journey together.

Therapeutic Approach:

It’s my aim to support clients to feel understood and safe in exploring their challenges so they might access greater clarity of their true self. My nature is down to earth and open; I like to dig into therapy with you, build a frank and trusting dynamic and co-create a sense of curiosity about the experiences in your life that might inform present patterns of thinking, feeling & behaving. I believe that humor, trust and unconditional regard are the hallmarks of a strong therapeutic relationship.

Education & Experience:

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York State. I obtained my Master in Social Work at Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, focusing on clinical social work and being trained through an anti-oppressive framework. I am an EMDR Certified Therapist and have pursued postgraduate training in attachment theory, somatic experiencing, IFS/parts work and mindfulness practices. I’ve also attended the postgraduate couples therapy program at Adelphi University and am trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.

Prior to my work in private practice settings, I have 10+ years experiences in various community mental health settings, with specialized focus in serving people in the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as those that have experienced serious mental illness, substance use disorders, trauma, sexual violence and homelessness. I have extensive experience in trauma-informed therapy, as well as in areas of anxiety, attachment issues and mood & personality disorders. If you are interested in my full job history, please check out my LinkedIn.

Nora Marcus (she, her), LMSW, Associate Therapist

ABOUT Nora

Hi, I’m Nora, a New York-based therapist. I believe all humans are capable of creating meaningful change in their lives. I consider it a privilege to be a part of that journey with my clients.

Therapeutic Approach:

I specialize in supporting people as they move through the painful complexity of life during and after divorce, with an expertise in supporting individuals adapting to co-parenting & separation. I've found that by giving space to their own healing process, parents can better understand how to tend to their children's overall emotional well-being and security, while adapting to their new family structure together. I also work with individuals that are navigating the transition, pain and healing that comes with being a newly single person after marriage/long term partnership ends and specialize in anxiety, grief and life transitions.

I bring a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to my practice. I tailor my therapeutic relationship to meet each person’s individual needs through active listening, mindfulness and a relational approach. By creating a space where the client is seen and heard, I aim to build a therapeutic relationship built on trust, understanding and empathy.

In my work as a therapist, I believe that the therapeutic process can bring a sense of hope, agency and healing during what is often a daunting new chapter of life.

Education & Experience:

I am a licensed New York State Social Worker (LMSW) and received my master’s degree from the Columbia University School of Social Work. In addition, I have training as a co-parenting specialist, NYS-certified mediator, Collaborative Divorce Family Specialist, and certified divorce coach. I specialize in divorce/separation, co-parenting, life transitions, grief, and anxiety.

Throughout my career, I have been committed to elevating underrepresented communities. For seven years, at Autism Speaks, I developed programming that empowered families for long-term success following an autism diagnosis. Before that, I created initiatives for the Jewish National Fund to engage young adults and worked in a community-based mental health clinic.
